The Acolyte Show Challenges Our Views
I hope the Galaxy and Disney will come to regret dissing The Acolyte Star Wars show.
The Acolyte Disney+ show was a top production with interesting new characters and a fascinating story. Why was it canceled after the first season? Who knows. HoloNet dissing of characters was part of it. Disappointing ratings was quoted. Perhaps it was corporate interest. And it could have been prejudice about something new and different. But regardless of the reasons let me tell you why you should not dismiss this unique and intriguing show.
The Acolyte is about a young anti-hero who becomes a follower of a mysterious villain. It all begins with the murder of a Jedi. And it goes back to an encounter decades ago on a remote planet where a group of force sensitive women are in hiding. Their leader is raising two children who call her mother. But they have no father. And these two twins end up being found by Jedi who explore a strong Force location.
As we watch, we are meet these characters and learn more about their encounter. We begin to suspect that something terrible happened. But we do not know why and how. It appears to have something to do with the mysterious Quimir and his acolyte. And yet it is not until the middle of the first season that the viewer begins to see the events of the past a second time from another perspective. And that starts to put everything into question, the story, the motives, the Jedi.
Jedi Master Indara is played by Carrie-Anne Moss. The twin sisters Osha and Mae deliver great performances, both by child age and adult actors. There's awesome lightsaber battles in Japanese style that ought to delight George Lukas, and by groups of Jedi. There's intrigue around the stranger and another shadowy character. And the season ends with a coverup and Yoda being drawn into it. And it is not what we first would have thought.
I am The Edge of the GalaxyArchive.Net and I tell you to watch each new movie or show with an open mind to be drawn in the story and meet characters on their own terms. When we first met the likes of Old Ben, Ahsoka, or Scavenger Rey, we didn't think much of them. And yet, it is the ordinary people who are not much different from ourselves who are usually the ones who face the choice between good and evil. Which path would you have taken?
The Acolyte should have deserved to tell the whole story about one of the greatest challenges and most consequential decisions for the Jedi Order. We know now that decisions made by a handful and those in charge still impacts the Galaxy to this day. What we are left wondering is who knew what and how it was being handled. You should see for yourself and not dismiss the possibility that there is more than one viewpoint - like for Quimir's acolyte, Disney execs, and us fans.
