The Mandalorian and Grogu Movie Review
Bounty hunting with Baby Yoda. Going after bad Empire guys and gangsters. And enjoying good old Star Wars with cool ships, and exotic creatures. It's all in the Mandalorian and Grogu movie.
The story may not be the most epic and surprising. But the action and locations are solid. There are also fun moments. Best of all, whether you have seen Star Wars or the Mandalorian show or not, you will enjoy this stand alone adventure.
For fans there are a lot of pleasing references with new twists. One really cool example is an arena fighting scene that resembles the table game played by the crew of the Falcon on Episode IV. Also, the movie's "Shakari" track has a cool remade sound.
Zeb from Rebels is on board via CGI. Rotta the Hutlet rescued by Anakin and Ahsoka has grown up. And while some small characters from the Mandalorian show make a reprise, Sigourney Weaver is a new entry to the Galaxy far, far away.
Without wanting to spoil anything, the Mandalorian is on a mission for the New Republic when things go, well, not quite as planned. As usual. There's bad guys, a lot of Stormtroopers, but worse are the number of scary creatures. And both old and new ships and droids.
Is it a must see? If you are a fan, yes. You'll be satisfied. Is it something to show your little younglings? Maybe not. Baby Yoda may be cute, but the violence is plentiful and scary. It's a sci-fi action movie after all.
Creator and director Dave Filoni did a fine job connecting show and movie while giving Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal) and Grogu a chance to develop and fit into the larger world of Star Wars. It's also what makes this installment interesting and believable.
A big job is finished but one is left wanting for more. Perhaps Mando and his "Baby" partner might want to take a break for a while after this one. But there is always someone who needs help, and there is always hope.
I'm The Edge HoloNet Caster for the GalaxyArchive.net, and I give the first Mandalorian and Grogu movie a humanoid thumbs up. It's big, fun, and original Star Wars for both fans and newbies. I have spoken.
